Dear Email Sentry:
As per the MWF alert sent out 10 days ago, the comment period deadline for the Lincoln Property acquisition on the Marias River is rapidly approaching; we need as many sportsmen to support this purchase as possible.
When Charlie Lincoln died he left his ranch to the Catholic Church in his will but expressed a specific desire that FWP be offered an opportunity to become the owner of his ranch properties located in prime high plains river bottoms at the headwaters of the Marias river. However, the Department wasn't sure they could fund the project. Some conflicts have also arisen within his family members who contested his decision, so it's entirely possible the future of this property could come down to a bidding war. With the urging of sportsmen and the possibility that this will become ranchettes, FWP has taken the initiative to move forward. As outlined in this proposal, which can be read in its entirety on FWP's website, this prime ring-neck pheasant, mule and whitetail deer, turkeys, sharptail grouse and waterfowl production habitat will benefit Montana sportsmen in perpetuity. The property with the river and its oxbows is already attracting the attention of real-estate developers; FWP's and MWF intervention is crucial or access to this highly valued landscape will disappear forever.
